Teil 4.

I realised that i hadn't actually updated my blog in like forever so as per, there's plenty to catch up on! Everything is nice and Christmassy here in Trier - it started on like the 26th November (rather keen are the Germans :P). The markets are stunning and compared to some of the other ones we have visited, definitely the best. We've been spending quite a lot of time at the markets, enjoying a Bratty or two as well as the Gluehwein (which i have to say is vile! But in the spirit of Christmas in Germany, i did buy one, mainly for the cute little mug it came in, but i did buy one :D). And once again, Josh and I raided the chocolate-fruit stand :)

We took a little trip to Koblenz and Cochem for the markets - VORSICHT!- Koblenz market is balls! Talk about a total lack of atmosphere! I think my bedroom is far more Christmassy, and that's saying something! We ended up walking around the various mundane stalls, getting a subway and buggering off the Cochem. Fleeing rubbish citys seems to have become a common occurrence, Luxembourg being the first incident. However, the day was redeemed by Cochem. Such a pretty little town. We had visited it previously during the Orientation weeks in the late Summer and it was stunning, but it's even better in the Winter. We arrived at this quaint little train station, which reminded Edam actually, very old-world like. The main square had been taken over by a giant tent, in which plenty of festive eating and drinking was taking place to some traditional German music (not quite sure what that is , but it sounded German). There only a few stalls but the entire town was so pretty and festive that it didn't matter. We ended up sitting in a cafe with glass walls over-looking the markets having a hot chocolate - very picturesque!
And of course not long after our little excursions, it snowed! It's amazing how a country can get so much snow, yet it doesn't fall apart - and yes that was a dig at England. However, the snow was rather peculiar. It would snow for a couple of hours, campus would be knee deep int he stuff, but by dinner time, it had for all intents and purposes, gone. Rather sad if you ask me! Sammy and I did attempt to make a snowman one weekend, but it didn't exactly go to plan. Firstly, the snow was pretty crap for making Schneemaenner or Schneeballen so we ended up exploring which resulted in both of us falling down a hill on our arses. Not the one. It has been fun though, but we're hoping that the snow will hold off for a couple of weeks while we fly home and back again :/
Last weekend, we ventured out to Koeln for what we thought would be a spectacular day filled with everything Christmassy! - not so much haha. It was riddled with tourists (AND CHILDREN! - ew!) so by the end of the day we were bordering on becoming misanthropists. Although we did find some gems in the market......

We weren't quite sure what these were; Josh thought they might some kind of wig for ladies, if you get me?! haha and .....
a random German woman cooking potato things (not sure what they were) with a wooden spoon through her hair. Oh how i do love the Germans! Despite the entertainment, we did spend more time travelling that we did in Koeln so as a warning to anyone wanting to go - don't. It's more quantity than quality and it's full of tourists not even attempting to speak German - complete turn off.

But of course it's that time of year, I fly home in four days!! Could not be more excited! All my work is done, almost handed in and i'm packed ( way in advance!). Looking forward to seeing my friends and family again :) I expect I'll blog whilst I'm at home, although i may be too occupied with eating mince pies and getting hysterically drunk so that's a maybe! Just one last little thing to leave you with - we were having drinks in our fav, New Mintons, and ordered Tequila slammers. It was served with an orange and cinnamon.....very festive!
                                MERRY CHRISTMAS! or FROH WEIHNACHTEN!!!!!!!
