So i'm back from my Christmas hols back home in good old England and finally back into the swing of things! It was fantastic to be home and to spend time with friends and family but i'll be back soon enough! It's been a pretty busy past few weeks due to revision (totally unnecessary if you ask me) and various bits and pieces. Although i think our crowning achievement so far in 2013 is our trip to Lommersum. So the story starts here; just to set the scene, it's a Friday night and we've just left pre drinks in Kleeburger Weg and arrive at the Erasmus party. Utter balls is the only way in which i can describe that party. Imagine 15 or so people awkwardly dancing to some dated 90's Euro-trash. Killer party! So after approximately one minute and 30 seconds, Josh (pictured below) decides he is NOT impressed and exits the building pretty swiftly.
So we follow suit and decide to head into town...rather drunkenly. We headed to one of our usual haunts, The Lange Theke, for a Sekt or two. A Sekt or two soon turned into many and before you know it I'm photographing toilet brushes hanging from the ceiling......
.....the barmaid has whipped out the photo albums from Karneval.....and we have purchased tickets to join them on Sunday. At the time it seemed like a grand idea, however 7am on a Sunday isn't the one. So Sunday morning we drag ourselves out of bed, still recovering from Friday night's hangover and brace the snow in out ridiculous costumes; never has anyone witnessed a black sheep, minnie mouse, a penguin and red riding hood wandering the Kohlenstrasse at 6.30am. A sight to behold. Anyway, after even more Sekt at the bar, we departed with what can only be described as a Saga-like coach load of people in Karneval dress. In true Karneval style, sandwiches and beer was thrust upon us as 'breakfast' and the coach broke out into song...this was to continue for the entire day. It was an eventful day to say the least and one i shall not be forgetting in a hurry, as the photos below demonstrate :
I am still left wondering what on earth went on in that village hall in a small town outside of cologne. It shall remain a mystery. But one thing i did learn is that Germans really do know how to drink and Santa and his Elf are horny so and so's :P If you want to experience Karneval properly, then something like this is perfect! You are surrounded by the locals and they are crazy! Best 20 euros i ever spent!
I must admit, the rest of the semester is going to be pretty boring compared to that day. I've just started exams today ( and am already traumatised by them!) so lets see how i fair over the next couple of weeks.
Bis gleich!
